As you know, Dr Phil handles all kinds of family-related issues due to his over 25-year experience and usually, the stories brought to him are INSANE!!!! The moms on this list seem to know it all BUT boundaries with their children. We assure you there’s plenty of drama in store as Dr Phil is also left speechless by some of these obnoxious moms. 5. Controlling Mum
We all know how incredibly clingy moms can get, especially when you’re an only child. What makes it worse is if you grew up having a close bond with your mom as some would call it “mama’s boy”. However, some ties need some boundaries due to extreme meddling. A 33-year-old man, Reed, is tired of his Mother’s meddling. Margaret, Reed’s mother denies that she is overstepping on her role but her absurd rules state otherwise. “I pay for Reed’s schooling, car, trips – everything that I felt would help him to become the person that I wanted him to be,” Margaret said. “I refuse to let him fail.”
That’s not all, despite his big age, Margaret wants to control what he wears too!!! Things are so thick that Reed believed the only way he would ever have a life of his own was when his mother was dead. Reed is tired because he feels Margaret is taking things too far by treating him like a child. She accepts that she treats him like her customers and that if she calls and he refuses to pick up, she would persist until she gets an answer.
According to Reed, her mother even dictates who she wants him to date and didn’t approve him dating Chinese women since she didn’t want grandkids with squinting eyes. Of course, she denied this in front of Dr Phil before finally admitting that she was also told something similar to that by her father when she was in college.
Reed is frustrated about her mother’s meddling that in his letter to Dr Phil, he was quoted regretting not going to the armed forces when he was 17 because his mother refused and instead offered him 15,000 dollars for him to stay. She even called the recruiter and warned them not to call him until he got his college degree. Since money was all she could bribe him with, she offered him 20,000 dollars to get a divorce which Reed claims he didn’t take.
Margaret admitted that she was manipulative and crossed boundaries with her son, but said she did so out of love. To solve this toxic tie, Dr Phil suggested a 90-day grace period where Margaret gave Reed space and allowed him to reach out when he needed to instead of her bombarding him with calls!!

When you are partnered with another person, you have no choice but to become a part of their family, and that means you have more than just a new relationship with them: You have their entire family to get to know and welcome as well. You may even have a mother-in-law who isn’t all that pleasant and we get it, an overbearing mother-in-law can make family visits feel like you would rather have your eyelashes plucked out of your head with chopsticks!
