Chateau la Croix Younan Winery

Chateau la Croix Younan Winery Chateau la Croix Younan is one of the few large vineyards located in the famous Saint Émilion, Bordeaux region consisting of 22 acres (9 hectares). Since the beginning, its objective is to produce in limited quantity an exceptional wine that could compete with the best wines of the region.

Formerly known as Chateau la Croix Fourney, La Croix Younan was acquired by La Grande Maison Younan Collection in 2016. It specializes in ultra-premium wines that showcase the remarkable quality of the region. The name change represents the care and passion that is implemented by the Younan Collection to make exceptional wine. There is no secret to the winemaking business, everyone goes through the same process. What makes Chateau la Croix Younan different is that it sacrifices quantity for the highest quality handcrafted wines it can produce.

It has always been the dream of Zaya S. Younan, Chairman & CEO of Younan Company and la Grande Maison Younan Collection, to own and operate a vineyard in the Saint Emilion region. Since the acquisition, the main priorities were the restructuring of the vineyard and the improvement of the winemaking process. The 22-acre vineyard grows 6.3 hectares of Merlot and 2.7 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon. The technical team of Château La Croix Younan is led by Dr. Alain Raynaud and Mr. Antoine Schmitt.

Traditional techniques of plowing and protecting the vines are used throughout the vineyard. No herbicides or pesticides are used. Old world harvesting techniques with high tech improvements for the making of the wine are used. Regular and severe pruning is practiced for a production voluntarily limited to 35 hectoliters per hectare. Depending on the section, leafing, thinning, and cutting are carried out to allow the grapes to ripen as long as possible without developing botrytis.

All berries are personally inspected and manually harvested in small crates (10 kgs). Only the best berries are chosen, sorted and fermented in stainless steel tanks and vinified under a thermos-regulation system in French Oak barrels. The winemaking is done in part in 20 hectoliter vats and 5 hectoliter Sylvain barrels. This technique of integral vinification, developed by Dr. Raynaud in 2001, permits the development of wines that are full, round, smooth and very balanced. Integral vinification represents about 35% of the harvest, requiring a qualified and sizable workforce. Aging is then done in new 100% French oak barrels for 60% of the production.

The beautiful and picturesque location makes for an extraordinary backdrop for a romantic picnic, an outdoor wedding, or a fun afternoon with friends. The beautifully appointed tasting room is open to the public. For more information, visit www.chateaulacroixyounan.com
