guy almost TAKES COP'S HEAD OFF with hidden machete - police shooting breakdown

Athens-Clarke police released on Wednesday the body-cam footage that shows the Oct. 5 police shooting of a man armed with a machete outside University Garden Apartments on Baxter Drive.

The suspect, Salvador Salazar, 28, of Summerfield, N.C., remains in an Athens hospital in serious condition, a police spokesman said Wednesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting, has announced that Salazar will be charged with aggravated assault for his actions toward the officer. Local police said they are continuing with their internal investigation as well.

Police were initially dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. to the apartment complex to check on a domestic violence situation.
