In Malaysia, both Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim have signalled that they are ready to be the next prime minister. On Feb 26, Dr Mahathir broke his silence in a nationally televised address -- his first public comments since resigning on Feb 24. Shortly after, Mr Anwar declared he had the backing of the parties in his coalition to be prime minister. Dr Mustafa Izzuddin, a research fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies, shared his thoughts on Dr Mahathir's televised address, and Mr Anwar declaring that he had majority support of the coalition during Pakatan Harapan's news conference.
He's proposed a unity government not aligned with any party.
