✔️ Patents protect utility and design inventions.
✔️ Utility & plant patents protect the invention for 20 years from the date of filing.
✔️ Design patents protect the design for 15 years from the date of filing.

➡️ 1:30 Trademarks

✔️ Trademarks are brands like Nike, Nordstrom.
✔️ They last as long as the company does!

➡️ 2:42 Copyrights

✔️Copyrights protect an artist.
✔️ The only requirement for a copyright, is that it has to be fixed in a tangible means meaning you have to record it (song, artwork, book, film).
✔️ Prima facie evidence is when you register a copyright, which allows you to have proof that you were the copyright owner.
✔️ Duration for a copyright is 70 years plus the life of the author.

✔️ Much like trademarks, trade secrets last as long as the company does. The only requirement is that it has to remain a secret.
✔️ In order to have a trade secret, three things have to be true:
Not known by the general public
You have to be making efforts to keep it a secret
It must be economically valuable to a competitor

✔️Most important for famous individuals who don’t want people to commercialize their image.
✔️ Examples include Michael Jordan’s slam dunk logo, and Colonel Sanders’ face.
✔️ They last as long as the life of the individual.
