Are Homeowners Insurance Claims Public Record? - Scottsdale AZ - Macaulay Agency

Byron: Hi, I'm Byron with the Macaulay Agency in Scottsdale, Arizona. A question many homeowners have is, our homeowners claims public record and while they're not entirely public record, there is a record of them. The industry uses something called the comprehensive loss underwriting exchange or CLUE. You may have heard it referred to as a CLUE report and what CLUE does is, it holds claims generally for five years or losses for five years. So anytime that you are looking for a new quote on your home, if you've had a loss within the last five years, generally speaking that insurance agency or carrier is likely going to access that information and see that you filed a claim in the last five years. The other time that it comes up is during the disclosure process for the sale of a home in Arizona. During the disclosure process, what you'll want to get is called an experience letter from your agent and that will show any claims over the last five years.

Anytime you want to file a claim on a home, it's a great idea to talk to your insurance agent about it. You can talk about deductible costs to repair and weigh all the pros and cons for you and your situation as to whether you want to file a claim for that specific loss. If you have questions on that, we'd love to talk to you about it. (480) 839-6401 or email us at info@mcauleyagency.com. Thanks.

Call Macaulay Agency at (480) 839-6401 if you have any questions at all!
