What is NPR? A First Step to NRC? | #Akashvani on #TheDeshbhakt

Even as citizens protest against CAA and the proposed NRC across the country (and some even abroad) - the Govt. has been quick to move ahead with its plan on NPR. Just days after the PM assured the nation that there had been no discussion over NRC - the central cabinet today - approved the process of National Population Register which according to many is the first step to NRC.

Cabinet minister Prakash Javdekar in the press briefing today, seemed rather confused regarding the two processes and kept on asserting that NPR has nothing to do with NRC and is similar to Population Census. Even if it is so, some questions have remained unanswered- why are the two processes happening successively if they are the same?- why do we need to provide our parents birth details if it has nothing to to do with citizenship?- why are certain state governments halting the process in their states?

In this episode of #AkashVani - we analyze today's press briefing and all the information that has been provided about this rather confusing process NPR. We tried to figure out if NPR is the first step to NRC or just another 'Jumla' to ignite anger/division among citizens?!
