The Man I Fortunately Knew - Tribute to Gunner Jack Yeo and other veterans of WWII

The Man I Fortunately Knew - Tribute to Gunner Jack Yeo and other veterans of WWII Norma Jean Yeo Malone, daughter of WWII Veteran, Gunner Jack Alton Yeo, was inspired to write a poem after hearing an emotional piece at a Remembrance Day Service entitled: 'The Man We Never Knew' (Author Unknown) - about a man who died in battle on foreign shore, and whose name is unknown. Feeling grateful her father got to return from the horrors of battle, she decided to compose a poem, 'The Man I Fortunately Knew' as a tribute to him, and other veterans who also got to return from across the ocean. She initially presented it,i n 1999, at the final reunion of his army buddies from the 82nd Battery, 4th Anti-Tank Regiment, Gaspe, Quebec.(reportedly with not a dry eye in the hall). Later, in the Year of the Veteran (2005), on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary Celebration of VE-Day, held at the Civic Centre, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, she again presented the poem with minor changes made to reflect the occasion of the 60th Anniversary. It was introduced as "one of the most moving poems you will ever see or hear".
