Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will move confidence motion in Assembly today. Yediyurappa, who earlier spelled his name as Yeddyurappa, earlier took oath on Friday as Karnataka Chief Minister. Meanwhile, Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar on Sunday disqualified with immediate effect 14 rebel MLAs, days after the Congress-JDS government collapsed after losing the confidence motion. This is in addition to the three dissident MLAs he had disqualified on July 25. Ravi Kumar, BJP's state unit secretary, said that apart from their 105 MLAs, they also have the support of one or two independent MLAs. He added that the party is confident of proving majority on the floor of Assembly. With the disqualification of rebel MLAs under the anti-defection law, the effective strength of the 224-member assembly excluding the Speaker, who will cast vote in case of a tie, is 207. The magic figure required will be 104. BJP already has 105 MLAs and is likely to sail through the trust vote.
