Meet the photographer
My name is Jill Osterhage (cancer survivor, wife to my high school sweetheart, mother of three, and grandmother of five).
I’m still a small-town girl at heart. I was born in the rural town of Rockville, Indiana, that I now call Newburgh, Indiana (my home). Fond memories, I recall as a little girl, are playing in the streets past dark and chasing fireflies on warm summer nights. We had the comfort knowing grandma was just down the road.
Later, my family moved to Vincennes, Indiana. That’s where I married my high school sweetheart, Brad. We started our family there - him a yard worker for Osterhage Lum- ber and myself working as a patient care technician from pediatrics in ICU . After being transferred several times, my family made our home in Evansville, Indiana. Brad and I have three incredible grown children: Michael, Danielle, and Mitchell. Since then, we have been blessed with 5 amazing grandchildren: Jaxson, Lyla, Brileigh, Mya, and Harper
After working 26 years in dentistry and orthodontics, my life changed. I lost my job due to the recession shortly after we bought our home. Two months later, I was hit with the news everyone dreads to hear, I had cancer. It was time to re-evaluate my life and en- joy the people and things around me. The nagging question was, “What do I leave be- hind for my family and friends?” The answer was simple-smiles and the most beautiful curve one possesses. I would capture that through photography. The gift of photos that grace the walls and desks of people they love. Photographs can capture a life-time of memories for every generation to come.
I picked up my first DSLR in March of 2012. My first photoshoot was February 2013, and I have been honing my craft and building my portfolio ever since.
In January of each year, I decided where I was going to give back to our community. This I chose a mission close to my heart, cancer. A true full circle moment, giving the gift to others that I longed to get from my own experience years ago, and why I picked up my camera.
I can’t express the gratitude I get from my cancer clients. The moment they walk in my door expressing - weakness, vulnerability, bravery, courage, full of faith, and strength - truly a beautiful transformation. When they later see their images put together with their stories it’s not only a personal transformation, but much more. It gives strength to all warriors in their battles.
