Coronavirus outbreak: Canadians encouraged to leave China while flights still remain 'available'

Coronavirus outbreak: Canadians encouraged to leave China while flights still remain 'available' Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Phillippe Champagne said on Wednesday (2:04) that Canadians were being advised against non-essential travel to all of China, and any Canadians in China whose presence in China was not essential should depart "via commercial means while they remain available."

Champagne also advised the flight being used to evacuate Canadians from Wuhan was delayed because weather caused the plane to miss its "narrow flight window" set out by China to countries evacuating citizens. They said people on the manifest must arrive at the airport in Wuhan no later than 5 p.m. local time on Thursday.

He added they were still considering a second plane for others seeking evacuation.

He also said while 308 Canadians wanted to leave Wuhan, there were 211 on the manifest for the first plane because of the plane's capacity.
