The China virus outbreak continues to grow, with over 70,000 coronavirus cases in China and new cases around the world. Get the latest in our LIVE CHINA VIRUS COVERAGE. The virus, also called the Novel Coronavirus and SARS-CoV-2, began infecting people in Wuhan, China in December. There are now 71,223 confirmed cases worldwide and 1,770 dead. (70,442 of the cases are in China.) Numerous Chinese cities with a total population of over 50 million people (including Wuhan) are under full or partial lockdown to help stop the spread of the virus and its associated disease (called COVID-19). There are now 15 cases in the US and new cases in Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, and elsewhere.
