As someone who has struggled with mental illness including depression, various forms of anxiety and panic attacks, I felt very relieved to be represented and taught how to heal from this animated series on Netflix. BoJack Horseman is a dark comedy that makes me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. I learned that you must be held accountable for your actions, whether mentally ill or mentally well. You do not have the right to treat others poorly because you were treated poorly. It's a tough lesson to learn, but I have tried my best and am implementing that lesson every single day, with much better results than letting the illness and trauma take over me.
Of course, watching BoJack Horseman does not substitute visiting mental health professionals, so I advise you find the right type of help you need and try your best.
