U.S. to deploy 3,500 additional troops to Middle East after Iranian general killed 美, 중동에 병력 증파...이란군 실세 피살에 긴장 급고조
There are growing fears of war between the United States and Iran after the U.S. drone strike in Iraq that killed General Qasem Soleimani, a top Iranian military commander.
According to media reports, the U.S. is preparing for retaliation by Iran or related groups by deploying around 3,500 additional troops to Iraq, Kuwait and other sites, some of them as soon as this weekend.
President Trump, meanwhile, has warned Iran that the U.S. is targeting 52 Iranian sites that it will strike (quote) "very fast and very hard" if Iran hits Americans or U.S. assets.
Iran has in fact vowed to avenge Soleimani's death.
Paramilitary forces in Iraq backed by Iran, the Kataib Hezbollah, seem to be preparing for such action.
The group has warned all Iraqi police and military to stay away from U.S. bases starting Sunday evening.
Already on Saturday, rockets were reportedly striking near the U.S. embassy inside the Green Zone in Baghdad.
