Firefighters from the Rochester Fire Department (RFD) in the southeastern New Hampshire city of Rochester (a.k.a. the Lilac City) have received delivery of their new Toyne Pumper. It is the third time Toyne, Inc., an industry-leading fire apparatus manufacturer, has dispatched a fully customized apparatus to the RFD. With their new Toyne Tailored Apparatus, Rochester’s brave men and women will be able to better address the emergency needs of one of the state's largest communities.
On a daily basis, around 60 members of the RFD respond to various emergencies throughout the city. They protect the lives and property of more than 30,000 people residing in an area that encompasses 45 square miles. To answer the call quickly and efficiently, the department operates a fleet of over 15 apparatus out of two stations. Their newest Toyne will be able to enhance their response capabilities in the city's urban centers and rolling hills.
Rochester's pumper consists of a welded stainless steel body that is integrated into a Spartan Metro Star LFD chassis and also features a 10-inch raised roof cab. Under the hood is a response-ready powertrain that combines the might of a 450 horsepower Cummins ISL9 engine and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission.
A 2,000 gallon-per-minute Waterous CSU pump and Fire Research Pump Boss pressure governor ensure that firefighters will be ready to suppress any blaze. Having a steady water supply isn't an issue either, with an onboard 1,000-gallon UPF tank and an 8,000-watt Onan Hydraulic generator.
Other enhanced firefighting capabilities come in the form of a Task Force Tips XFT-NJ monitor, with an 18-inch extension. The RFD can also effectively light up a scene with the pumper's array of Fire Research SPA260-Q15 telescoping lights.
"We are proud to deliver this department's third Toyne apparatus," said Michael Schwabe, President of Toyne, Inc. "Being able to continue working with departments – like Rochester – is always a great opportunity to see how we can further tailor the next apparatus to meet their changing needs."
This pumper was sold to the Rochester Fire Department by Eastern Fire Apparatus, a Toyne dealer based out of Milton, New Hampshire
