To play off the nvz line or not is something that comes up in pickleball and it's somewhat of a controversial topic.

Some people say that you should NEVER back off the NVZ line. In fact, that is what I was told when I first started playing the game and I soon realized that this is not the best advice.

There are no absolutes in sports.

In pickleball, there's a time to play tight to the line and there are times to play slightly back. There are pros and cons to both and you have to consider multiple factors when deciding where to play.

You may play tight to the line against certain opponents and slightly back against others.

You may play tight to the line during certain parts of the point and back on others.

It really all depends on what stage of the point you are in, who you are facing and what your strengths and weaknesses are.
