The Challenges And Struggles Of Owning A Lifestyle Business Travelling The World - Ben Ivey

Some people have a goal of running a business whilst travelling the world, today I wanted to share some of the challenges and struggles I have faced whilst setting up my own lifestyle business.

1. No base

I would love to have one base or home that I can go to consistently. I’d love to have a strict routine for my health so that I could optimise myself even more everyday. Because I travel so much it is very difficult to maintain a food and nutrition routine at the highest of levels. Especially when in China as many of the foods are much more difficult to find and the nutrition content is very different in the food.

2. Exercise routine

When I first started out I found it hard to find a gym consistently each month I travelled and to get into an exercise routine on a consistent basis. I have found it much easier now that I do home workouts, runs and yoga, however starting off this was a big challenge.

3. Cash flow in different countries

First starting out it was very difficult to maintain money in different places around the world. It is now much easier with Monzo, Revolut but to be honest I am old fashioned and just prefer having bank accounts in each of the major places I visit!

4. Illness

When you are your business if you get ill you are not paid, this is an important point as a few years ago I burnt out for 6 weeks. It is of paramount importance to build a safety net so that if you ever do get in trouble you can support yourself. Make sure to keep your health a priority so you don’t fall off track like I did!

5. Relationships

It is nice to build relationships but it is difficult to maintain friendships long term without being in the same base for a prolonged period of time. Also my long distance relationship with Ev has been a challenge to maintain but of course it is worth it. Though it is not for the faint hearted, you must be committed!
