A few years back, there were very few people in India who actually owned a Netflix subscription. The only place where the people had heard about Netflix was in movies. However, with the increased cheap data penetration and with the rollout of very affordable plans from the OTT platform, more and more people joined Netflix. Now Netflix has struck a chord with a lot of people in India. But, things have surely taken a turn in this regard as the data prices in India have gone up by 40% after the new data tariff hike and Netflix wants to make sure that its customers do not give up on the service. As such, according to a new Gadgets360 report, Netflix is testing long-term plans in India. Similar to the long-term plans in other industries like in prepaid and in DTH, these Netflix long term plans will offer subscription for multiple months like 3-months, 6 months or even an annual subscription as well. By now you might have guessed, that these plans would also come with a discount as well. Netflix Long Term Plans With Up to Yearly Subscription Options
The long-term subscribers of Netflix will enjoy up to 50% discount on some of the long term plans. It is also worth noting that seeing the situation in India, Netflix had introduced a special plan for Indian consumers, which cost only Rs 199 per month. This plan is currently only available for mobile users. Now under this new step, Netflix is testing a quarterly plan which costs Rs 1,919. The thing to note here is that if the subscribers would have paid for Netflix on a month on month basis, then the subscription for three months would have cost them Rs 2,397, but with the long-term plan of Netflix, the subscribers would be enjoying a discount of 20% on this price.
Netflix Subscribers Also to Enjoy Discount
Going further up in pricing, the subscribers will be able to opt for the semi-annual plan from Netflix, which will get them 6 months of subscription of the service. The cost of this plan has been set at Rs 3,359. Similar to the other plan, if the subscribers were to pay for 6 months of Netflix, separately, then they would have to pay Rs 4,794. Lastly, there is also a yearly subscription plan from Netflix under testing, which would be available for Rs 4,799. For a regular subscription of Netflix for twelve months straight, the subscribers would have paid Rs 9,588. However, with this plan, the subscribers would enjoy a discount of 50%. The premium plan of Netflix which offers the most features to the subscribers with 4 screens, highest quality and more costs Rs 799 per month.
Netflix to Bring More Indian Content
Netflix started its services in India back in January 2016. Now the service boasts of many subscribers in India and has lots of Netflix Original shows which come out of Indian production houses. Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings in an event held in Delhi remarked that Netflix would be pumping Rs 3,000 crore in India to churn out fresh content. The CEO also added that India remains an important territory for Netflix and that it is striving hard to make its content more and more Indian centric. Currently, Netflix stands in competition with other OTT services like Amazon Prime Video, and ZEE5. But while these services are more easily priced, Netflix remains one of the most premium OTT services in India.
