South Korean Culture Minister Park Yang-woo and the director general of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, agreed Tuesday to work together to recognize the Demilitarized Zone as a World Heritage site. They were meeting on the sidelines of the UNESCO Forum of Ministers of Culture in Paris. Park asked for the organization's support to recognize the DMZ as the heritage of both Koreas, one that also represents the spirit of UNESCO. Azoulay said she also thinks the are can become a symbol of peace instead of division, adding that she hopes detailed discussions can start soon.
