Alexandre Lacazette’s Russian agent Dmitry Cheltzov has claimed he offered the Frenchman to Zenit St-Petersburg in the summer. The forward remains a vital figure in Unai Emery’s plans to secure the return of Champions League football in north London following a three-year absence. Yet despite that, Cheltzov tried to negotiate a deal with Zenit in the summer for his client, informing them of the striker’s £61million release clause. Luckily for Arsenal, it was waved away by the Russians and branded ‘crazy.’“I offered Alexandre Lacazette to Zenit,” Cheltzov told Sports Business Gazeta.“Their sporting director Javier Ribalta said to me: ‘Are you crazy? His release clause is £61m’.“I told him you can negotiate with Arsenal. I am sure they will be ready to accept something between £43m and £48m.“His salary would be £7m after tax.”Instead Zenit chiefs opted to sign Malcom from Barcelona for a club-record fee of £36m.
