Because, I have lived in France for the last 1.5 years, and honestly there isn't much difference. I can tell you this. Food is cheaper here, you can collect rainwater, have chickens, utilities are low, and you can burn a fire whenever you want. If you were homeless, you can pull on the side of almost any road and camp in a tent without harassment. There are free places to park your RV in almost every town, usually the city center church parking lot. Cars have to be certified before they are sold, or every 2 years and you can buy a stick of fresh bread for less than a dollar. Bigger isn't always better and at least in the countryside, French people are about family, village , farmers markets and small event gatherings. Does America have more services?
