Session 120: Helping Children Regulate Their Emotions

Session 120: Helping Children Regulate Their Emotions The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a Licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible version of ourselves.

It's Back to School time so I wanted to dig into a topic this week to hopefully help stave off a few meltdowns for both you and your kids. In today’s episode, we’re talking about how we can work to better regulate our own emotions so that we can help our kids regulate theirs. For this conversation I was joined by Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart and we discussed what co-regulation is, how it can be useful in strengthening your relationship with your kids, how we can make sure we have enough reserves to manage our own emotions, and the important distinction between discipline and punishment.
