Hey guys. Jimmy want to share with you a story about two stupid teenagers who caused a big fire just because they felt bored. "Our parents always sent me and my sister to grandma's for summer holidays. Well, I think all parents do it. And that’s great - kids stay in fresh air while parents relax from helping with the school homework and endless noise from the kids.
It’s so great at grandma’s! She’s a wise woman, so no lectures or any constant watching after us. She wasn't with us all the time, like other kids’ grandparents, so we enjoyed our freedom at the fullest. She had only one rule – if we go far away, we need to take Rex – grandma's German shepherd. She joked the dog had much more brains than we two.
When it was hot we would always stay on the riverside. We swam, we fished and we were constantly clowning around. Rex lied in the shade of the river bank, looking at us, ready to save us at any moment. Once his skills proved to be necessary.Two twin brothers - the same «victims of summer holidays in the country and fresh air» - and Mary who was the daughter of the village mayor. We all were friends together. That time I liked Mary very much. She was not a typical city girl. She cursed a lot and she would throw herself into a fight even with adults. She was a cheerful fighter. I tried to be gallant with her. Well, as much as I could at 15.
Alex was sort of an elf. She loved flowers, trees, hiking in the woods, relaxing on the beach… and she didn’t like people very much. All in all, I was her only friend. For others - she just tried to be tolerate, although the boys were looking at her. Well, because of Alex, we got into in a creepy story.
She was just lying on a deckchair in the middle of our garden and sometimes taking cold shower. I was bored but I couldn’t leave my sister alone. And I suggested – I don't know why – to go to the forest and make bonfires.
At the end of our garden, just behind the trees, there was a field that was planted with wheat. I mean, technically the field was a part of our land, but my grandma re-registered it to the village property. However, there was no fence there.
Well, we went there to see how fun it would be to burn the old trees. Don’t forget that the heat was terrible and everything around us, even the ground, was too dry. We stood there, looking at the fire… and suddenly we realised there was one element we didn’t take into account in our «brilliant» plan.
It happened so that we set a bonfire too close to the field. Naturally, when the dry trees began to burn, some part of the fire spread to the dry wheat. And it flared in a flash. We rushed to extinguish the be-ginning fire with water and feet stomping, but we only made it worse.
People came around very fast. The whole village tried to extinguish the fire, because the it could spread to the grass at any moment and burn down the whole village. I was happy that the wind was blowing another direction from our house. Why my brain woke up only in an emergency state – I still do not know.
Despite all the efforts, the field was completely burned down. But the fire was extinguished and it didn’t spread further. The most interesting thing was that no one thought of us. People thought these bottles to be the reason of the fire outbreak. This situation was very embarrassing and scary, but we remained silent.
Only now I realise what consequences that fire could bring and why so many people prayed and thanked God when everything was over. I don’t play with the fire any more. Still, if I need to set a bon-fire I always do it strictly with the safety rules".
