Eating KOREAN SUSHI at The BIGGEST Seafood Market in Korea | Busan, South Korea

Eating KOREAN SUSHI at The BIGGEST Seafood Market in Korea | Busan, South Korea As the rain continued to pour in Busan, South Korea on our eighth day in the country, my boy Sam and I continued our indoor activities with a trip to the biggest seafood market in Korea! Come along with us as we explore the market and have some succulent Korean sushi!

Sam:

This seafood market is also the number one tourist attraction in Busan. There are never-ending stalls as far as the eye can see, and each one is selling different types of seafood, including lobster, crab, clams, oysters, octopus, and tons of fish I had never seen before! The first level of the market has three long rows of stalls, and each row is lined with over 300 stalls!

The market has multiple levels, and the stalls are all on the first level. Once you pick out the seafood you want, they’ll take it upstairs and cook it for you! People also buy seafood here to take home, and local restaurants also get their seafood here.

The first level of the market is a feast for the eyes! Above each stall is a number. Every vendor’s name and phone number is up there as well, which makes it easy to contact them directly if you want to!

We passed by king crab, stone crab, and lobsters, as well as mussels and oysters. There were fish snakes, huge fish, flat fish, squid, and so much more. They have everything you can imagine and everything you can’t imagine!

We took a look at what we’d selected for lunch, which was some flounder that would be turned into sashimi. We got it from a friendly guy at seal 7. I was so amazed by the variety there, but there were also some very exotic-looking ones that I was a little scared of, especially after my raw, exotic seafood feast the previous day.

But I was starving, so I was ready to go eat! We jetted back outside and ran through the rain to the second building, which is a mix of a market and tables where you can eat. We bought a big spread of sushi for about $35 USD. He started preparing it, and then we headed up to the third level to eat.

There were non-stop traditional tables on the third level. We kicked off our shoes and took our seats. We started with some soju and some beer and then the banchan arrived!

The soju was really nice and smooth. Then our spread arrived! It consisted of 24 pieces of chobap (Korean sushi): eight pieces of three different fish. Our guy had even added wasabi on top of the rice.

I dove into my first piece with soy sauce, which had a big piece of sashimi. The wasabi added a kick. The fish was really tender. There were also bits of caviar!

I tried my next piece with sriracha. The sticky rice was so good and the fish evaporated in my mouth. This was my favorite meal in Korea so far!

The next piece was amazing with the traditional Korean sauce, which contained onions, spring onions, and sesame seeds. It was so fresh! There was also some potent pickled ginger!

This chobap were thicker than usual, so you get more fish per bite. Sam and I both loved having the wasabi in each piece and we both were in love with the traditional Korean sauce!

Next, the woman serving us made us some soup for 10,000 won, or about $8.29 USD. It was a fish head soup with mushrooms, radishes, and lots of other veggies. It looked unreal!

I grabbed some and made sure to get some fish head and broth. The broth was super hot, spicy, and fishy. The fish was soft and the radishes and potatoes were great. The mushrooms were the best part!

Then I tried the banchans, including a flavorless jelly. There was some syrupy corn, ginger, carrots, and edamame. What a great way to end our meal!
