Statistics Measures of Spread

Statistics Measures of Spread Measure of spread are descriptive statistics or summary statistics and fall under the data analysis step in the Statistical investigation process.

Generally the first descriptive or summary statistics looked at are measures of centre but alone these can be misleading. A useful numerical description of a distribution requires both a measure of centre and a measure of spread.

Specifically in this video we look at the range, the five figure summary including the minimum value, first/lower quartile(Q1), second quartile or Median (Q2), third/upper quartile (Q3), the maximum value and the interquartile range (IQR).


Another measure of spread is the standard deviation but this is covered in its own video.
