Here's an eye-popping example of network packaging at its most deranged. It all happened in the wake of the successes of variety shows like Donnie and Marie and Cher. ABC president Fred Silverman reunited the a few of the cast of The Brady Bunch on an episode of the Donny & Marie variety show. The episode was so popular that he decided to go whole hog and mount a variety series around a half-hearted plot where Mike Brady gives up his career in architecture to get into show business (because they give anyone a show - even a family of unknowns in the show's narrative.) Everyone signed on expect Eve Plumb as Jan, who was replaced by Geri Reischl (aka Fake Jan.) So, here's an example of a number that the Brady kids perform on the show - "Car Wash" along with the "Kroftettes" a chorus of showgirls who sing, dance and even perform synchronized swimming numbers. The series was aired very oddly indeed. Each episode was meted out sporadically throughout the summer season of 1977, leading to inconsistent ratings and after 9 episodes - scrapped. Since then, the series has gained a cult following and enjoys some success on YouTube as a camp curiosity of sorts.
